1000 Calories Per Day – Too Few?

Several folks have commented or emailed about the fact that I plan to eat less than 1000 calories per day for the next 30 days.  Many are concerned that I’m eating too little.  Basically, I have weighed the possible effects (burning muscle, not fat, fatigue, etc.) verses the possible rewards (better sleep, lower weight, no sluggishness.) – and I’ve decided that I have to be a little “crazy” for a month or so.  This is just how I am – in for a penny, in for a pound, so to speak.  If I eat much more than I’m eating now – I lose the “edginess” of a slight hunger – and then I REALLY over eat.  Frankly, losing weight is only one of my goals.  My primary goal is to “shrink” my stomach and “master” my overeating.

Obviously, I would never suggest that anyone else “do what I’m doing”.  I just know myself.  I have to get really, really psyched about something – and then I can really get some stuff done.

One quick note:  In my opinion, 1000 “healthy calories” – from fruits, vegetables, lean meat – HAVE to be healthier than 2000 “bad calories” – from cookies, chips, soda.

Just Got Back From The Walking Track – 2.75 MILES – I Rock!

I just got home from the walking track, where I walked 2.75 MILES.  I feel so awesome right now – WAY better than I felt back in January and February.  For some reason – and maybe it’s the fact that I TALKED to some of my closest friends about my “weight issues” – but I get the feeling that I may have turned a corner.  All I know is, instead of thinking about food, I’m thinking about other things.

Hydration – I Thought That I Was Hungry, But I Was Just Thirsty!

I had to go to the grocery store this morning – we were running out of fresh fruit and chicken breast – and I found that I started to feel “ravenous”.  I was starving.  Or, so I thought.  But, the truth is, I was simply thirsty.  I bought a bottle of water, drank about half of it, and, like magic, my hunger was gone.  Wow.

I have a digital food scale (purchased from Amazon – Digital Multifunctional Scale, Black) that I use to weigh the food that I eat.  It can report in ounces or grams.

But, from time to time, I need to convert from ounces to grams or viceversa, so I use the free online conversion tool, located at Online Conversion.

Here’s my caloric intake as of 11:15 AM

I have been under 1000 calories per day since Sunday – and I plan to stay under 1000 calories per day, no matter what, between now and Christmas.  I realize that I will eventually need to increase my intake – in a month or so – but for now, I need to drop some pounds – pronto!  I have sleep apnea – a condition which makes it difficult to sleep – and the heavier I am, the worse my symptoms get.

It’s a few minutes before 3 and I’m doing great.  I’m eating very small meals, spaced out every 2 or 3 hours.  Here’s my current daily total.
