Finally, Life Is Back To Normal

April 28th, 2008

I’ve been sick for the better part of the last week.  So has my wife.  And my daughter.  And my little boy.  Thankfully, the new baby seems to be doing just fine.  But, today, we all feel much better.  I’m going to sit down for my first meal of the day, and I’m going to use the 4 Golden Rules.

I must admit, the past three weeks have been tough, dealing with the stress of the birth and then being sick.  But, it feels so good to have the other kids back in school and to be able to get back to our regular schedule.  Mommy is staying home with baby and I’m able to get back to my regular work.

I think I’m going to have a little turkey bacon and some strawberries.  I’m also going to drink a very large glass of water.  I feel a bit dehydrated, and I know that the water will make me feel so much better.

Breakfast And The New Baby

April 21st, 2008

I’m sitting here, typing away, after enjoying a good ‘breakfast’ of turkey bacon and dill pickles.  Baby number three is resting beside me, sleeping in her baby swing.

So far, she’s doing great.  She eats at about 9PM, then has another bottle at 1AM – and then she sleeps until about 6AM.  For a newborn, that’s pretty awesome.

I’m back to following the ‘golden rules’ and I feel great.  I just had a huge glass of water – and I’m beginning to think that water is the key to almost any diet.

I’ve decided not to weigh until the first of May.  I don’t want to get discouraged – and I want to stop focusing on numbers.  Of course, knowing me, as soon as I hit ‘publish’ for this post, I’ll go step on the scale!  But, the first of May is my goal.

I’m going to go for a walk later this afternoon, time permitting.  I have a funeral to attend at 10 this morning – and our oldest is feeling a little puny.  I’ll be busy almost all day, but I’m going to make it a priority to squeeze in some exercise time.

My wife, by the way, looks great!  And, she’s feeling good.  Thank you so much for your kind words, comments, and emails.

Back On Plan And Doing Great – New Babies Rock!

April 16th, 2008

We are all home, safe and sound.  Mommy is doing great and baby number three, born Sunday, is just perfect.  Big sister and big brother are over-the-moon happy, and Daddy, well, I’m back on my eating plan and more blessed than ever!

In the 10 days or so, leading up to the birth, I was scatter-brained.  I don’t know why – but it could have something to do with the fact that we live an hour away from the hospital where the baby born.  I was a little nervous – a lot nervous – about making it to the hospital in time!  But, all went well.  Baby girl weighs 8 pounds and she is absolutely beautiful.  She sleeps 4 to 5 hours at a clip and she’s already eating a full 2 ounces at each feeding.  We are so happy she’s here and now our little family is ‘complete’.

I’m back to following the ‘4 Golden Rules’.  I’ve just fixed a plate of some of my favorite foods and I’m going to go sit at the kitchen table, eat slowly, and think about our blessings.

By the way, in my last post, I mentioned that I would have ‘more time’ once the baby arrived, to eat and plan my days.  What I should have written was that I would have ‘more of a fixed schedule’ that I could work around.  We now have the baby home, we have her schedule set, big bother and big sister are off to school, and I can sit down and really follow the plan.   Plus, the few days ‘off plan’ really showed me how much I ENJOY being ‘on plan’.

New babies rock!!!

I’ll post my official weight on Monday!

Waiting For The New Baby And Coasting

April 9th, 2008

I’m still using the ‘4 Golden Rules’ – but I’m avoiding the scales.  Life is so busy right now, waiting for baby number three to be born, and I don’t need the added stress of worrying about my weight loss.  I like being in control, but I know that I’m eating more than I should, because my meals are a bit ‘rushed’ right now.  Once the baby is born, I’ll be able to follow the rules more closely and my days will be a bit more scheduled.  I’ve been walking, instead of running, for the past week, trying to build up my leg strength.  I really hurt the muscle in my left foot, but it’s almost healed.  I’ll have a weigh in on Monday.  Until then, I’ll be busy, getting ready for baby number three to be born.

Busy, Busy Week And Some Hard Lessons Learned

April 5th, 2008

I’ve been trying to follow the ‘golden rules’ – but I’ve been so busy this week, getting ready for the birth of third child.  Tomorrow morning, I’ll go back to really focusing on how I eat and eating consciously.  We were fully expecting the baby to be born this week – our other two were born two weeks early.  Apparently, the new baby is just fine, and has decided to wait a few more days.

Hard lessons I had to learn -

1.  Following the golden rules requires a table, a knife, a fork, and the ability to sit and think.

2.  I cannot follow the rules AND drive.

3.  It IS possible to eat out and follow the rules, but it is very, very difficult.  Better to have a bigger meal at home and then a smaller meal with friends.

I’ll admit – I thought that I could ‘modify’ the rules – and return to eating in front of the television or while driving – and I can’t.  I’m glad I figured this out and now I’m ‘back’ to following the rules, strictly.
