It’s been a VERY rough past three weeks. I injured my back. How? I’m not sure. All I know is, I’ve had trouble walking, raising my hands above my head, and bending over. It’s been pretty awful.
I finally went to the doctor last Friday. She gave me three different medications, and I spent ALL of this past week, on my back, out of my mind, resting. Thankfully, as of yesterday, I’m starting to feel better. Most of the pain is gone, I can reach above my head, and it doesn’t hurt to bend.
Provided I feel good in the morning, I’ll be back to my walking / eating routine. I’ve lost about 5 pounds, and I was really getting into the “groove” until the old back started to hurt. Hopefully, I’ll hit my stride, so to speak, and more weight will come off. Sorry for the lack of posts, but between family, work, and the terrible pain, I just didn’t feel like blogging.
So, here’s to a pain-free, walk-filled, healthy-eating, week. Rock on!

I’m finally starting to feel like a gym regular again. I’ve been twice in the past three days – and I feel like I’m getting back into a good rhythm.
Today, it’s time to work arms and back. I’ll also do a little work on the treadmill. I’d rather walk outside today, and skip the gym’s treadmill, but it looks like its going to rain. So, I’ll use the gym’s.
I’ve been busy over the past month, with work – and coaching my son’s baseball team. Coaching his team has me thinking about joining a softball league next year. If I’m going to do that, I gotta pick it up, cardio-wise.

For the past couple of weeks, my son has been taking swimming lessons. He’s a little afraid of the water, but he’s doing great. While he swims, I workout. It’s cool, because the time-limit on his swim lessons really helps me focus – and “get my workout done!”
Speaking of swimming, diet-wise, I’ve just kinda been “treading water”. I’ll do good for one day, and not-so-good the next. I’m down about 5 pounds, but not really locked-in to the whole diet thing. I got a cold the other day, spoke with my doctor, and got some very interesting news. He said that I should simply ignore the “weight charts”, and get down to a healthy, manageable weight. For me, instead of the 150 or 160 that I’ve always thought I should weigh, he said I should shoot for, say, 200 pounds.
So, I need to lose about 50 pounds, and not 90 or 100. This makes me feel much better. I’ve also scheduled a test for my thyroid, just to see if everything is okay with it. We shall see.
It’s raining today, so all walking will have to be on the treadmill. That’s cool, but I do miss the stroll through the neighborhood. Maybe it will slack-up a bit, and I can walk in the mist.

It’s still very cold here. Instead of going outside for a walk or driving to the gym, I decided just to do my workout here at the house. I managed to do several push ups, squats, and lunges. I also did some deep knee bends and some stand-in-place-walking. I worked up a good sweat and now I feel great.
Now that we are settling into the new house, it’s super-important that I get into a solid routine. I THINK I’ve figured out when I can go to the gym – and when I’ll just have to work out here at home. Either way, I’m making it a priority to work out, regularly.
On a completely different note – I need a really good pair of ear-buds for working out. I’m not a big fan of the ones that came with my iPod, but I want some of similar size and design. Any thoughts?

Whew.
I’m back from the gym – and I had a great workout. Let me rephrase that. I had an awesome workout – mainly because I actually had a workout.
It’s been a while since I really hit it hard at the gym, and it felt good to work my arms, do some stretches, and get in a good 30 minutes on the “treader”. It’s a little depressing, realizing that I’m not in the same shape I was in this time last year, but there’s nothing I can do about yesterday – I can only focus on today – and prepare for tomorrow.
I did pretty well on my diet, except for the fact that I ate a bit more than I had planned. The kids are heading back to school tomorrow, so I should be able to get back into a normal “groove” and schedule.
2010 is already feeling 50 times more positive than did 2009. I don’t know what it was, but 2009 was just so….. something. Anyway. Onward and upward we must travel.
I’ve been very, very busy the past three or four days, and it felt great to be back in the gym. Even if the exercising didn’t help me lose weight (which it does, when I actually stick to it), it always makes me feel better. A good run or workout might be God’s natural anti-depressant. Rock on.
