Nutrition Bar Review: PowerBar Triple Threat Caramel Peanut Fusion

As part of my ‘calorie control’ diet, I’ve been eating one or two ‘nutrition bars’ a day. I like to eat one right before I workout and another later in the day, around 3PM. I’ve read several articles about just how “healthy” these bars really are, but I like them because I can use them as part of my overall eating plan, they’re easy to carry, and I always know EXACTLY how many calories I’m consuming.

I eat food because I like to eat food. So, my reviews will focus on taste, texture, and the effect the bar has on my mood (energy level, etc.) I’ll mention the nutritional information, but I’ll leave it up to you to figure out if this bar is “healthy” or not.

PowerBar Triple Threat Caramel Peanut Fusion

Calories: 230 Carbs: 30 Fat: 8 Protein 10

Taste: A

I really enjoyed the way this bar tasted. It tastes like a ‘real’ chocolate bar, and it’s just chewy enough. Snickers-like?

Texture: B+

When I eat one of these, I feel like I need to use my “teeth”. The peanuts are crunchy and the chocolate will “melt”.

Energy: B

Surprisingly, even with all of those carbs, I don’t feel “pumped” after eating one of these bars. I strongly suggest that you eat one of these while “on the go” or you might get the “after carb” sleepy feeling after an hour or so.

Cost: B

I found these on sale at my local Kroger for about $1. Looks like you could go to Amazon and get a box of 15 for about $16.

PowerBar Triple Threat

Overall: B+

I’d give the PowerBar Triple Threat Caramel Peanut Fusion a strong B+.  I like the taste and it feels like “real food”, but I’m not a big fan of the higher calorie count and the carb/protein ratio.
