After Three Months

I began my new way of eating December 29, 2006. After years of struggling with my weight and with “diets”, I decided to simply stop “dieting” and starting “eating well”. I have lost a total of 17 pounds, but I have been struggling to lose more weight for the past month and a half. I must confess, I have eaten a bit more than I should and I have exercised a bit less than I should. I will refocus and move forward! I started at 247 pounds and now I weigh 230. Since starting this blog I have joined a local gym.

Three things I have done well since starting this site:

I have posted regularly.

I have exercised regularly.

I have radically changed my eating habits.

Three things with which I still struggle:

I drink too many diet sodas.

I eat too late at night.

I still eat whenever I get “stressed”.

Seventeen pounds rocks! Thank you all for subscribing, commenting, and supporting. Onward and… downward!

(Thanks to Karen’s comment, I corrected my start date.  Thanks, Karen!)

Building A Playhouse, Eating Well, Just Waiting

I am building a playhouse for my daughter.  (I’m exhausted, but it feels good to build something with my own hands.)

I am eating well.  My wife just cooked tacos and I ate a small portion with a few organic chips.

I am still waiting for the scale to move.

Breakfast Options

I’ve only recently begun to eat breakfast. Most overweight people skip breakfast, start to starve around noon, and then eat a huge, unhealthy lunch. To avoid this “fast and crash” pattern, I now eat a healthy, filling breakfast. I usually rotate between the following three options:

Oatmeal and Strawberries with a glass of Water.

Wheat Toast and Grapes with a glass of Water.

Whole Grain Cereal/2% Milk and Banana with glass of Water.

I then eat a piece of whole wheat bread with a slice of turkey and a little mustard as a snack around 10AM.

My daughter was sick Monday, and I was finally able to get to the grocery store Tuesday. I’m stocked up with healthy foods and ready to see the scale MOVE! I’m headed to the gym at 11AM.

Shopping Tomorrow

WOW!  I have been super, super-busy for the past few days!  We went to visit with both sets of parents this weekend, and then today we all went skating with the kids from out church.  (Skating was much easier 15 years ago!)  I’ve been “holding steady” with the weight loss, but tomorrow, I’m going shopping, and it’s “back on track”.  I’ve eaten fast food three times over the past weekend and I feel “yuck”.  No weigh-ins for this week.  I just can’t stand to look at the scale.  So, tomorrow, it’s time to stock up on some high fiber, high quality food stuffs.

Doctor, Doctor

I am sitting outside right now, enjoying one of the most beautiful days in the history of the universe.  I’d guess that it is about 72 degrees.  It is sunny and their is a slight breeze.  The pear treas in our front yard are blooming, and the azaleas are just coming out of bud.  The grass is beginning to turn green, and my little boy is riding around our backyard on his John Deere tractor.  He is at home with me today, because his daycare provider had to go to the dentist.  I took my son to the doctor today a check up.  He is three now, and the doctor says that he is in great shape and smart as a whip.  My son wears glasses to correct a problem with his left eye.  Hopefully the glasses will “fix” the eye problem and he can avoid surgery when he gets older.  So, it’s just me and my son, hanging out together, eating Popsicles on the back porch, chasing butterflies, and learning how to throw a baseball.  There’s living, and then there’s LIVING.  Today, baby, I’m ALIVE!

(My weight loss has slowed to a crawl, but I am still eating nutritiouss foods.  I did eat fast food last night, but I’m back on “program” today.  I’m about to fix grilled chicken and brown rice for lunch.)
